## What the work covers

One system: the pressurized water supply, from the meter and the main shutoff to every fixture. Drains, vents and the sewer line are a separate system and separate work.

- [Whole-house repiping](https://gracklerepipingaustin.com/whole-house-repiping/): Every hot and cold supply line from the main shutoff to the fixtures replaced, permitted under Austin's plumbing code, pressure tested and patched.
- [Slab leak reroutes](https://gracklerepipingaustin.com/slab-leak-reroute/): A leaking water line under the slab is confirmed, capped and abandoned, then replaced with a new line run overhead through the attic and down the walls.
- [PEX repiping](https://gracklerepipingaustin.com/pex-repiping/): A whole-house or partial repipe in PEX tubing, with the tubing type, fittings and layout chosen for the house and run to Austin's attic and pressure rules.
- [Copper repiping](https://gracklerepipingaustin.com/copper-repiping/): A whole-house or partial repipe in rigid copper tube, joined by soldering or press fittings and routed for the access a rigid pipe needs.
- [Galvanized pipe replacement](https://gracklerepipingaustin.com/galvanized-pipe-replacement/): Scaled, rusting galvanized steel supply pipe replaced with PEX or copper, with the restriction, rusty water and the service line sorted out first.
- [Polybutylene replacement](https://gracklerepipingaustin.com/polybutylene-pipe-replacement/): Gray polybutylene supply pipe identified, then replaced throughout the house with PEX or copper, separate from Austin Water's work on its own service lines.
- [Water line replacement](https://gracklerepipingaustin.com/water-line-replacement/): The buried yard line from the meter to the house replaced by trench or bore, with a new customer valve, a permit and a pressure test before backfill.
- [Burst pipe repair](https://gracklerepipingaustin.com/burst-pipe-repair/): Split and frozen water lines in attics, walls, crawlspaces and yards cut out, replaced with new pipe, tested, and protected or rerouted so they do not freeze again.
- [Partial repiping](https://gracklerepipingaustin.com/partial-repiping/): One bathroom, one branch or one failing run replaced with new pipe, with a written boundary that shows exactly which old pipe stays in the house.
- [Multi-family repiping](https://gracklerepipingaustin.com/multifamily-repiping/): Water supply risers and unit piping replaced in condos, apartments and small commercial buildings, phased stack by stack so residents keep water at night.

## Standards the work follows

- **City of Austin plumbing code.** The 2024 Uniform Plumbing Code with local amendments, adopted by Ordinance 20250410-042 and effective July 10, 2025.
- **Pressure.** Austin amendment 608.2: a pressure regulator with a strainer where static pressure exceeds 65 psi, set to 65 psi or less, with an expansion tank downstream.
- **Attic and exterior runs.** Austin amendment 312.6.1: R-4 insulation on water lines outside the building thermal envelope.
- **Permits.** Austin plumbing permits are pulled by a responsible master plumber licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and registered with the City. Suburban cities issue their own.
- **Testing.** New piping is pressure tested and inspected before walls close, then flushed.

## How a repipe runs

The same stages on a slab ranch, a pier-and-beam house or a small multifamily building.

1. Called First callWhat you're seeing, how old the house is, whether it sits on a slab or a crawlspace, and any reports you already have.
2. Assessed Walk-through at the housePipe material at the water heater and fixtures, static pressure at a hose bib, attic access, and where walls can be opened with the least damage.
3. Piped The workNew lines run, fixtures and the water heater reconnected, and the old pipe cut out or capped and abandoned in place.
4. Closed Tested, inspected and patchedA pressure test and flush, the City inspection before walls close, then the access openings patched to the agreed scope.

## How pricing works

The site publishes typical Austin-area price ranges so you can set a budget before anyone visits. The price for your house comes after the walk-through, once the pipe, the routes and the finishes are known, and every estimate lists the permit, the pressure test and the patch scope as separate lines.
