Estimate your house
The range depends on the job and, for a whole-house repipe, on PEX and access. Stories, bathrooms, attic access and tile show where in the range a house tends to land; they never change the numbers.
Typical Austin-area range, whole-house repipe
$4,500 to $15,000+
All hot and cold supply lines from the main shutoff to the fixtures, with connections and the pressure test. Choose PEX to see the PEX range.
Separate lines
- Wall and ceiling openings, patch and paint. No public figure; it should be a written line in the estimate, with the number of openings.
- City of Austin plumbing permit. Pulled by a City-registered responsible master plumber; the fee comes from the City's schedule and is confirmed for the address. A failed inspection costs $83.85 to reinspect.
Programs to know about
- City of Austin Plumbing Repair Program. Grants up to $15,000 for critical plumbing repairs to homeowners at or below 100% of median family income. Ask whether your job qualifies.
- Austin Water galvanized service line replacement. Austin Water replaces galvanized service lines it has flagged, from the meter to five feet from the house, or reimburses eligible costs when the owner has it done.
Public programs have their own rules; this tool cannot say whether a house qualifies.
Water at this address
Austin Water is lime-softened to about 5.4 grains per gallon, with a pH near 9.7.
These are typical Austin-area ranges, not a quote; the price for your house comes after a walk-through. For context, the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the mean plumber wage in the Austin metro at $30.65 an hour against $34.70 nationally (BLS). A wage is not a billing rate.

How the estimate works
The figures are typical Austin-area ranges, not quotes. No answer you give scales them: there are no multipliers and no square-foot math, and open upper ends stay open. What you answer decides which range applies and which notes and separate lines appear.
Code lines come from the City of Austin's adopted plumbing code. Permit lines come from each city's published schedule. For context on labor, the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the mean plumber wage in the Austin metro at $30.65 an hour against $34.70 nationally (BLS). A wage is not a billing rate.
What each job shows
| Job | The calculator shows |

| Slab leak reroute | about $4,000 to $9,750, before leak detection |
| Water line, meter to house | about $1,500 to $5,000+; open trench about $50 to $185 per foot as a national budgeting range |
| Burst pipe repair, pipe work only | about $400 to $1,500+ |
| Partial repipe | No range; the drivers, and a price after a walk-through |
Never inside the range
- The plumbing permit, a pressure regulator and leak detection, each shown as its own line
- A replacement water heater and new fixtures
- Patching and painting, unless the estimate lists it
- Drain and sewer lines, which are a separate system
Questions about the calculator
Why does the calculator give a range instead of a price?
Because the price of a repipe depends on things only a walk-through settles: the routes new pipe can take, the finishes in the way and the pressure at the house. The calculator shows the typical Austin-area range for the job, $4,500 to $15,000+ for a whole-house repipe, and what pushes your house toward the high end.
Why is there no range for a copper repipe or a partial repipe?
Local figures for copper disagree too much on the low end to publish a range honestly, and a partial repipe depends entirely on its scope. The calculator shows the whole-house range for copper with a note that copper sits toward the top, and lists the drivers for a partial repipe.
Does the calculator include the permit fee?
It shows the permit as its own line. Austin's fee comes from the City's schedule and is confirmed for the address; a failed inspection costs $83.85 to reinspect. Round Rock lists a standalone plumbing permit at $50.
